18/11/2014 - A Keepnet Full of Dreams Kevin Grozier

In 2009 I reviewed a book titled Avon days and Stour Ways it covered four decades of coarse fishing by Kevin Grozier and a few of his friends on the rivers of Southern England, the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour, for barbel, carp, chub, dace, perch, pike and roach It was an excellent read and after 70 odd years of angling I also learnt a thing or two from the authors experience.

Kevin’s second book A Keepnet Full of Dreams with 169 pages, continues in a similar style bringing his fishing experiences up to date. In the new book are some amusing stories The Thomas Trilogy page 97 The Tow will certainly have you in stitches as Kevin and his friend Richard tow a 1964 Hillman Super  Minx from Berkshire to the Welsh town of Neath  This is followed by Things that go bump in the night which will take all you readers over 50 years old back to your youth. The book is well illustrated with some great photographs of perch barbel roach grayling and chub to mention a few the pictures will have you drooling and dreaming. It’s a book of stories you will enjoy. My only complaint is the small type which for us old ones made it difficult for me to read without a magnifying glass. Included is an account of his first carp fishing experience abroad where Kevin writes about the Sat Nav that kept taking them onto a small French farm track and not the 6 lane highway.

Kevin still lives in Ringwood with his incredibly supportive wife Lin and whilst the time spent fishing has become limited with the passing of the years, he is still mostly drawn to the banks of his beloved Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour rivers. They are in essence his spiritual home. The price is £34-30 in my opinion this book would made an excellent Christmas present available by cheque or postal order payable to Kevin Grozier11 Merlin Close Hightown Ringwood Hampshire BH24 3RB.
