Though conditions didn't look good according to some anglers I spoke with I thought differently, I don't go along with the thinking that chub don't feed in coloured water, I've caught more than my fair share of fish in such conditions often with the river over the bank. I'd planned to float fish for roach but with a low water temperature 42 degrees F with a strong gusting cold south easterly wind I reckon it would be chub using cheese flavoured crust, an Avon action rod, small fixed spool reel with 4lb line with a size 8 barbless hook completed my set up. It certainly proved the right choice with a chub of 5lb 12 ounces. I was more than happy to celebrate with a piece of cake and mug of tea.
